If you liked that, you’re certainly going to enjoy reading the Black Woman’s Billionaire series, also by Avarice Eden!

“Do you want a drink or something?” I asked.

He shook his head politely, and sat down on my couch. To his credit, he didn’t make a face when he did so, but I still felt I could sense a note of discomfort. “No thank you,” he said. “I really will make an effort not to spend too much of your time on me. Not yet, at least.”

I cocked my eyebrow at him, and he smiled again. That smile was incredibly disarming, and I told myself that I had better be careful. There was every chance that a man like this could change my life in any of a million ways, and that was the last thing I wanted. Yeah, I was having trouble writing at the moment, but other than that I was pretty happy with my lot in life.

“Are you planning on just sitting there and playing the I’m oh so mysterious game with me, or did you want to take a second and explain to me what the hell you’re talking about?”

He nodded, more to himself than to me, and motioned to the chair across from the couch. The nerve of this guy, giving me permission to sit in my own furniture, in my own living room! Still, there was something about him. He was so obviously a man that was used to giving orders and having them be obeyed that it made it seem nothing more than natural to do as he’d asked.

I sat.

“I won’t get into a longwinded explanation of the entire process, if you don’t mind,” he said carefully. I could feel him watching me closely, and I did my best to act professional. It was hard, though. He was so damn sexy, and just having him here to myself in the living room like this was enough to make my body ache.

Wait until I tell Lavonda! I thought to myself. That little slut will tear her weave out of her silly head when she finds out I had him all too myself like this!

“In short,” James said, his low voice like the deepest, darkest molasses, “I have a business proposition for you. I understand that you are an author of some acclaim. Is this correct?”

I shrugged, the urges to somehow be both humble and honest fighting against one another. “I’ve written some things that a lot of people have read,” I said finally, weighing my words carefully. “I wouldn’t say that I’m going to win the Pushcart Prize or anything, but I do okay. Not at all as well as you seem to be doing, of course…” I said.

He waved my comment away. “I won’t pretend to have earned my money at as honorable a trade as creation,” he told me.

“Money’s nice to have,” I said, “but I won’t pretend that it’s the driving force in my life.”

“Good,” he said, and the mood in the room changed as his smile turned up a few notches.
